Changes in the discourse of french grammar

ABSTRACT

The discourse surrounding French grammar has undergone significant transformation due to linguistic evolution, sociocultural influences, and advancements in communication. This study examines how traditional and modern perspectives on French grammar have shifted over time. It explores the transition from rigid prescriptive norms to more flexible and descriptive approaches influenced by globalization, digital communication, and contemporary linguistic theories.
The objective of this study is to analyze the key changes in grammatical discourse, focusing on shifts in syntactic structures, prescriptive versus descriptive debates, and the impact of technological advancements on language use. The research also evaluates how educational policies and language standardization efforts have shaped these developments. The scope includes historical and contemporary linguistic studies, grammar textbooks, and discourse analysis of digital platforms.
Findings indicate that while classical French grammar was heavily regulated by prescriptive rules, modern discourse reflects a growing acceptance of variation, informal structures, and pragmatic considerations. The increasing role of spoken French, social media, and digital writing platforms has contributed to grammatical fluidity, challenging traditional norms.
The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative discourse analysis and corpus-based linguistic evaluation. By assessing historical texts, academic literature, and digital language usage, the research provides a comprehensive view of the evolving nature of French grammar discourse.
